Story
Currently I have been a teacher for the small towns of Dutch Harbor and Unalaska for two years and going on a third. For those who may not know where Unalaska is, check out a map of Alaska and follow the Aleutian Islands until you reach Unalaska island. I was accepted into the NOAA Teacher At Sea (TAS) program in early March 2010 and am privileged to have the opportunity to sail with the NOAA ship Oscar Dyson for approximately 2.5 weeks at the end of July and early August. Aboard the Dyson I will work with scientists as they survey the populations of Walleye Pollock in the Bering Sea and gather information such as the conductivity, temperature, and depth of the Bering Sea. This will be a truly remarkable experience because I will have the opportunity to bring back all the research for my students so they too will have the opportunity to conduct real-life science from their home waters!
